Russian media: Google is fined for leaking Russian military information

According to TASS on April 21, a Google company administrative violation judgment issued by a local court in Moscow, Russia shows that the company leaked information of Russian soldiers who died in a special military operation violated the law.

The verdict stated: "The verdict has been submitted to the Russian Federation Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media Supervision Bureau. The verdict ruled that the disclosure of personal information such as personnel losses, names and resumes of the Russian Federation armed forces during special military operations is information prohibited from being disseminated in Russia." The verdict pointed out that some videos on the Utu platform leaked the above information.

The judgment states: "Under the terms of use of Youtu, the service provider of the website is Google, which operates in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware in the United States."

The judgment also states that Google was sentenced to illegal and fined 3.8 million rubles (about US$47,000) under Article 13.41, Part 2 of the Russian Federation Administrative Illegal Code ("violation of the provisions on obtaining information restricted from dissemination under Russian Federal law").

Previous reports said that one of the reasons for the Russian court's decision was that Youtu posted a video guiding Russian soldiers to surrender. The ruling also includes other reasons for ordering Google to bear administrative responsibilities.

The court has previously punished Google for its administrative violations many times, including that Youtu has published propaganda videos containing non-traditional sexual relations and discrimination against Russian military.

It is reported that Google's administrative violation fines owed to Russia have reached 2 rubs (10 to the power of 36) and this amount has become increasingly large due to overdue payment. Google will only be able to return to the Russian market after executing the Russian court's ruling. (Translated by Liu Yang)
