Shoigu: The possibility of Russia resuming nuclear tests is not ruled out

On April 24 local time, TASS published an exclusive interview with Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Federation Security Conference. In the interview, Shoigu said that if the United States restarts nuclear tests, Russia may take reciprocal measures to respond.

Shoigu stressed that Russia's position on nuclear testing is directly dependent on the US's actions in this field. At present, the shelf life of some nuclear weapons in the United States is about to expire, and the research and development of new weapons is being carried out in full swing. These factors may prompt Washington to restart nuclear tests. In this case, Russia may take reciprocal measures to follow up.

Shoigu said that the Russian Ministry of Defense and the National Atomic Energy Corporation have made relevant preparations. He pointed out that in recent years, Russia has developed and installed a series of modern strategic weapon systems, and Russia's military strength has been significantly improved. Under the current conditions, Russia does not believe there is an urgent need to conduct nuclear tests.

The last nuclear test of the Soviet Union was implemented on October 24, 1990 on Nobita, and then the Soviet Union announced a unilateral suspension of nuclear tests, and Russia continued this policy. (Central Channel reporter Wang Bin)
