The performance of Yue Opera "Weaving Mansion" in Beijing shows Cao Xueqin's mental journey of creating "Dream of Red Mansions"

As a funded project by the National Art Fund, the Yue Opera "Weaving Mansion" created by the Nanjing Yue Opera Troupe was performed at the Poly Theater in Beijing on the evening of April 21. The drama shows Cao Xueqin's mental journey of creating "Dream of Red Mansions" and explores the spiritual core and unfinished mysteries of literary classics. It is written by Luo Zhou, the winner of Cao Yu Script Award, and starred by Li Xiaoxu, the winner of the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award.

"Weaving Mansion" is the final work of the "Jinling Trilogy" of Nanjing Yue Opera Troupe. It takes the four seasons of "spring, summer, autumn and winter" as a chapter, showing the world of "soul" in the book after Cao Xueqin returned to Jiangning Weaving Mansion, and the dialogues and emotions of the virtual and real with Lin Daiyu, Xue Baochai, Jia Mu and other characters.

The play breaks through the mirror-framed stage, sets up a font-shaped extension stage above the orchestra, and builds a multi-dimensional time and space of "burial of spring flowers", "teeta tasting in summer", "feasting at autumn", and "tears gone in winter". The starring Li Xiaoxu is free to change between the middle-aged and down-and-out Cao Xueqin and Jia Baoyu, who has Cao Xueqin's soul, and combines the opera "Four Practices and Five Methods" to show difficult and hard-working movements such as galloping and swinging the field, waving the robe and kneeling down.
