my country's nuclear technology application output value may reach trillions of yuan in 2025

On April 21, the first China-Gulf Arab Cooperation Committee for Peaceful Utilization of Nuclear Technology Forum was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. Huang Ping, Secretary-General of the China National Atomic Energy Agency, revealed that the output value of my country's nuclear technology application in 2025 is expected to reach trillions of yuan.

Huang Ping said that my country has a complete industrial chain innovation chain system in the field of nuclear technology application, covering nearly 40 sub-sectors such as medical isotopes, accelerators, radioactive sources, nuclear instruments and equipment, radiation applications and characteristic nuclear medicine, and has formed a complete industrial system from R&D to application. It is estimated that the output value of my country's nuclear technology application has reached nearly 700 billion yuan by 2022, with an average annual growth of more than 15%. In 2024, the National Atomic Energy Agency and twelve other departments jointly issued the "Three-Year Action Plan for High-Quality Development of Nuclear Technology Application Industry (2024-2026)", proposing to break through a number of key technologies, build a number of innovation platforms, and cultivate a number of specialized and new enterprises around the application of nuclear technology in key directions or fields such as medical diagnosis and treatment, agricultural breeding, food processing, material modification, security, etc. China's nuclear technology application industry has entered a period of rapid expansion, and is expected to reach a trillion-level market size in 2025, injecting strong momentum into the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.

Huang Ping introduced that in recent years, the National Atomic Energy Agency has taken a number of measures to organize scientific research tasks based on bottlenecks and shortcomings, promote a significant improvement in the level of scientific and technological innovation in the application of nuclear technology, and continuously enhance the ability to develop upstream of the industrial chain, value chain, and innovation chain. For example, during the COVID-19 epidemic, radiation sterilization technology reduced the sterilization cycle of medical protective equipment from 7-14 days to less than 1 day, effectively ensuring the emergency supply of medical protective clothing; in terms of isotope production, high-specific activity medical cobalt-60 sources have been domestically produced, and carbon-14 irradiation targets have been mass-produced for the first time, accelerating the independent supply of radioactive isotopes; in the field of nuclear medicine, the first domestically produced heavy ion cancer treatment demonstration device has been put into clinical application, the world's first panoramic dynamic PET-CT imaging system has entered clinical verification, and the research and development of many radioactive drugs has made significant progress.

The forum was hosted by the China National Atomic Energy Agency and representatives from member states of the Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Arab States such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, as well as neighboring countries such as Pakistan attended the meeting.
