Four generations of successors gathered in two performances

The famous Peking Opera performing artist Zhang Junqiu is one of the "Four Novels" and the founder of the Peking Opera Zhang School Art. Not only did he have outstanding appearance and voice talent, he also boldly innovated the singing style of traditional Peking Opera repertoire, created new plays that conform to the spirit of the times, and made great contributions to the inheritance and development of Peking Opera art.

This commemorative performance was initiated and organized by Zhang Xueling, the daughter of 80-year-old Zhang Junqiu, and includes two performances: professional and amateur venues. On the evening of the 25th, the professional venue gathered outstanding successors of the Zhang School from all over the country, covering the master's personal disciples, re-transmitted disciples, and fourth-generation successors. Among them, there are many famous Zhang School masters from various professional troupes, and young and middle-aged artists who have won the Plum Blossom Award and various national awards. Zhang Xueling also proposed to organize another performance for outstanding amateur fans from all over the country on the afternoon of the 25th, with the purpose of carrying forward the Zhang School art and received a warm response.

Wang Runjing, a granddaughter of Zhang Junqiu and a first-class actor at the National Peking Opera Theater who participated in the professional performance, said: "As the third generation successor of the Zhang family, I have a heavy responsibility and I have no choice. My elders have made their contributions. I hope to unite more inheritors and make more contributions to Zhangpai Art together!"

Film shooting calls for attention and support

The launch of the movie "Zhang Junqiu" has also attracted much attention. This film will take Master Zhang Junqiu's life as the main line and show his struggle and outstanding achievements on the path of Peking Opera art. Zhang Xueling said that the book "Zhang Junqiu" written by her was recognized by the late artist Mr. Guo Baochang. After the publication of the book, director Ding Yinnan took over the work of adapting the script and directing the movie "Zhang Junqiu". Zhang Xueling and Professor Lu Shan, senior editor of China Pictorial, also participated in the adaptation of the script.

After more than a year of joint efforts, the adaptation of the film script has been completed. It has been approved by the Film Bureau and can be filmed. It has received relevant funding from Beijing and has been listed as a project of concern.

However, filming still faces the problem of funding shortage. Zhang Xueling called on all sectors of society to pay attention to and support the movie "Zhang Junqiu": "We believe that this movie has great potential. It will not only show the charm of Peking Opera art, but also allow more people to understand the fighting spirit of Peking Opera people. We hope that people from all walks of life with insight, talent and financial resources can support us, so that the film can be successfully completed and present a wonderful work to the audience."

The masters are remembered by the younger generation

Zhang Guanzheng, a professor at the Chinese Academy of Opera, highly praised Master Zhang Junqiu's artistic achievements and innovative spirit: "Mr. Zhang is one of the most influential founders of the Peking Opera school since the founding of New China. His artistic concepts and innovative spirit have set an example for our descendants. He not only innovated in the creation of plays, but also kept pace with the times in terms of character modeling and performance style. This never-ending spirit is worth learning forever." Zhang Guanzheng emphasized that in inheriting Zhang's art, we must not only learn the master's skills, but also inherit his spirit and constantly innovate, so that Zhang's art will remain young forever.

Zhang Xuehao, the son of Zhang Junqiu, was the president of Zhang Junqiu Art Research Association. He looked back on his father's grand occasion of accepting disciples and spreading his art. "At that time, many famous Peking Opera artists came to study, and their homes were crowded with people and were very lively." Zhang Xuehao said, "My father's artistic achievements and spirit are the pride of our family and the treasure of the Peking Opera industry. We have always been committed to inheriting and promoting his art. Although we face many challenges in today's diversified social environment, we have always adhered to it and strived to contribute to the inheritance of China's excellent traditional culture."

"After Mr. Zhang for so many years, my love for Zhang's art is hard to describe. I think this is my life." As Zhang Junqiu's personal disciple, Tsai Ing-lian, professor at the Chinese Academy of Opera, has a deep master-apprentice friendship with the master. She recalled every bit of her study with Zhang Junqiu and was very excited. Nowadays, 81-year-old Tsai Ing-lian still practices singing every day. She said: "Teacher Zhang's art must be passed on. We will pass on it for one day of our life."

As a disciple of Zhang's Art, Wang Yixiu hopes that through his own efforts, more people will understand and love Zhang's Art: "Last year, I conducted 20 national tours for 30 years. In this process, I felt the inclusiveness of Zhang's Art's singing style, and I also strengthened my determination to inherit Zhang's Art." Hong Yan, a disciple of Zhang's Art, not only served as the concert host and participated in the performance, but will also invite eight children who studied Peking Opera to perform on stage: "It is very meaningful to let children understand traditional art through stage practice." Hong Yan said that we should learn from Master Zhang Junqiu's innovative spirit of keeping pace with the times and let Zhang's Art shine new vitality in the new era.
