US State Department approves new arms sales to the UAE

According to AFP on May 12, U.S. officials said on the 12th that before President Trump visited the UAE this week, the U.S. State Department had authorized the sale of $1.4 billion worth of military helicopters and equipment to the UAE.

  The U.S. Department of State Political and Military Affairs said in a statement that the proposed arms sale to the UAE includes six CH-47F "Chinook" helicopters and other equipment worth $1.32 billion. These helicopters and equipment will "support U.S. foreign policy and national security."

  "The UAE will use these assets for search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian support and counter-terrorism operations. The UAE is an important partner of the United States in maintaining political stability and economic development in the Middle East," the statement said.
