Foreign investors sell Indian stocks

According to Bloomberg on May 14, after foreign investors bought more than $6 billion in Indian stocks for 16 consecutive trading days, they turned to net sell on May 9, with the sell-off amount reaching $279 million on the same day, the first net sell-off since April 11.

However, this round of selling may be short-term behavior. Boosted by India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement, the NSE Nifty 50 index opened the week to its biggest single-day gain in four years.

Preliminary data showed that foreign investors returned again on Monday, with net purchases of 1,250 crore rupees (about 145 million US dollars) of Indian stocks. At the same time, local institutional investors have continued to increase their investment recently, with cumulative net purchases exceeding US$1.5 billion in the past three trading days.
