Construction of the second cross-border railway in China and Mongolia has started after nearly 70 years

Xinhua News Agency, Hohhot, May 14 (Reporter Zhao Zehui) On the 14th, the construction groundbreaking ceremony of the China-Mongolia Ganqimaodu to Gashunsu Haitu Railway, an important channel for energy cooperation between China and Mongolia, was held at the Ganqimaodu Port in Urat Zhongqiban, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

This is the second China-Mongolia cross-border railway built after nearly 70 years after the completion and opening of the Erlianhot to Zamenwude Railway in 1956.

This cross-border railway departs from Ganqimaodu Port, passes through the Gashunsu Haitu Port in Mongolia, and connects to the Gashunsu Haitu Station in the South Gobi Province of Mongolia. The internal section of China is planned to be completed in 2027.

This China-Mongolia cross-border railway project was jointly promoted by China and Mongolia. The internal section of China was invested and constructed by the State Energy Group, and the internal section of Mongolia was invested and constructed by the Taben Tauregee Railway Company. Both sides have made it clear that cross-border railways are “unified design, construction, and connection at one time”.

The preliminary supporting project of this project, Ganquan Railway, has been opened for operation. After the completion of the China-Mongolia cross-border railway, it will realize the connectivity between the Ganquan Railway and Mongolian southbound railway, promote infrastructure interconnection and economic and trade exchanges between the two countries along the route, and drive the upgrading of cross-border logistics, industrial parks, border trade services and other formats in China and Mongolia.
