US media: The US and the Philippines "shoulder side by side" exercise target ship sank on its own

According to the US Defense News website on May 5, during a joint live-fire exercise between the Philippine Armed Forces and the US military, a retired ship that was supposed to be sent to the grave of the water by modern weapons actually sank on its own.

A US spokesman for the military exercise said in a statement Monday that the sunk of the Philippine light frigate, Miguel Malvar, is about 30 nautical miles west of San Antonio in Sanbalis, Philippines.

The statement said that despite this, some live ammunition parts of the US-Philippines "shoulder-to-shoulder" 2025 joint military exercise originally scheduled to participate will continue as planned.

The statement also said that the Miguel Marvar "invaded water during the positioning process" and sank at a scheduled live-fire site at 7:20 a.m. The statement stated that there were no casualties.

In addition, the statement said: "It is well known that this ship was chosen because it has exceeded its service life and is no longer suitable for military operations."

However, this failure did not affect the command of the subsequent live-fire exercises. The statement did not specify what else the military exercise plan would be, but said that "the joint force will still achieve its training goals." (Translated by Wen Yi)
