Recently, the "2024 Beijing Urban Renewal White Paper" and "Urban Renewal - Beijing Practice and Exploration" new book press conference was held at the Shoukai Shouyuan Cultural Finance Industrial Park. The white paper jointly prepared by the Beijing Urban Renewal Alliance and the Municipal Planning Institute shows that as of the end of 2024, Beijing Urban Renewal has accumulated more than 2,400 projects in the warehouse, including 177 demonstration projects that are focused on rolling promotion in 2024.

  Completed fixed asset investment of approximately RMB 73.4 billion

  2024 is the year when Beijing's urban renewal is fully accelerated. Among them, investment in facilities and industrial projects accounts for nearly 60%. The fiscal budget expenditure for urban renewal throughout the year was 8.53 billion yuan, ensuring the smooth completion of livelihood projects such as the application-based rent-refund of bungalows, the renovation of old communities, and the demolition and reconstruction of dilapidated buildings.

  "There are many highlights in various renewal results such as buildings, business districts, and parks. Public spaces such as waterfront spaces and pocket parks are loved by citizens."   2,008 households completed application-based withdrawal in the core area

  The white paper shows that as of the end of 2024, the cumulative number of urban renewal projects has reached more than 2,400. Among them, from 2021 to 2024, the city will roll forward urban renewal demonstration projects in four batches, with the number of projects being 59, 99, 153 and 177 respectively.

  Focusing on improving people's livelihood, in 2024, the core area completed application-based withdrawal of 2,008 households, 1,348 bungalows were repaired, 206,000 square meters of dilapidated buildings were renovated, and 19.94 million square meters of old urban communities were newly started and 18.88 million square meters of new construction; focusing on the transformation of momentum, the city completed 56 new constructions of old factory renovation projects and 71 new constructions, renewed and renovated 3.06 million square meters of old and inefficient buildings, and completed the renovation and upgrading of 15 traditional business districts including Wangfujing, Wukesong, Sanlitun.

  The white paper also includes a list of Beijing's urban renewal policies, as well as the renovation case guide for the reconstruction project of Building 8 of Huapi Factory in Xicheng District, the Lumicang New Audio-visual Industrial Park project in Dongcheng District, the regional comprehensive renewal project of Fangzhuang Street, Fengtai District, and the "Qinghe Island" (Shucun Section) waterfront green corridor landscape improvement project in Haidian District.

  Expand the pilot project of complete community construction

  It is reported that Beijing’s urban renewal will carry out 53 work tasks in eight categories this year. Among them, the protection and restorative construction of bungalow courtyards in the core area will be promoted, including 2,000 households for application-based withdrawal (including re-leasing) and 1,200 protection and repairs; the comprehensive renovation of 599 municipal old communities will be started, 300 elevators will be installed in the old buildings and 600 completed; the pilot expansion of the complete community construction will be expanded, and a batch of model communities will be created.

  "In 2025, urban renewal will not only usher in a period of strategic opportunity, but also face the test of high-quality development and transformation." The white paper suggests that the urban renewal work mechanism should be improved, the urban renewal approval and policy management system should be optimized, the urban renewal approval and policy management system should be carried out, the urban renewal physical examination and the preparation of special plans should be promoted, and the implementation of regional comprehensive urban renewal should be advocated.

  At the press conference, a group of newly promoted member units joined the Beijing Urban Renewal Alliance. Up to now, the alliance has absorbed 215 member units, covering the entire urban renewal industry chain fields such as planning and design, construction, financial investment, property management, and operation services.

  The cooperation projects of Beijing Urban Renewal Alliance and Beijing Sports Industry Association were also announced on the spot, which will promote sports to enter communities and blocks, and enter more public spaces. A parent-child script hiking activity based on Mr. Lao She’s famous work "Camel Xiangzi" was held in May.
