  Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 6. On May 6, President Xi Jinping sent congratulatory messages with European Council President Costa and European Commission President von der Leyen to warmly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU.
 Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the EU are comprehensive strategic partners, and they are also two major forces that promote multipolarization, two major markets that support globalization, and two major civilizations that advocate diversity. In the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two sides have had close exchanges at all levels and fields, and have fruitful results in dialogue and cooperation, cultural exchanges are vivid and colorful, and multilateral coordination is effective. China-EU relations have become one of the most influential bilateral relations in the world, and have made important contributions to enhancing the well-being of the Chinese and European people and promoting world peace and development.

  Xi Jinping stressed that at present, the world's century-long changes are accelerating, and human society has once again reached a critical crossroads. A healthy and stable China-Europe relations not only make each other but also illuminates the world. I attach great importance to the development of China-EU relations and am willing to work with President Costa and President von der Leyen to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to summarize the experience of the development of China-EU relations, deepen strategic communication, enhance understanding and mutual trust, consolidate partner positioning, expand mutual opening up, properly handle frictions and differences, and open up a better future for China-EU relations. China and Europe should uphold multilateralism, defend fairness and justice, oppose unilateral bullying, work together to respond to global challenges, jointly promote an equal and orderly world multipolarization and inclusive economic globalization, and make greater contributions to world peace, stability, development and prosperity.

  EU leaders said that in the past 50 years, China has achieved the fastest sustained economic growth in history. The EU and China have established extensive ties, become each other's most important trading partners, and contribute to the well-being of the people and economic development and prosperity of both sides. Against the backdrop of current global uncertainty and geopolitical changes, the EU is willing to deepen partnership with China, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, work together to meet common challenges, and promote world peace, security, prosperity and sustainable development.

  On the same day, Premier Li Qiang and Costa and von der Leyen exchanged congratulatory messages. Li Qiang said that China is willing to work with the European side to adhere to the positioning of a comprehensive strategic partnership, further enhance the stability, constructiveness, reciprocity and global nature of China-EU relations, and inject more stability and positive energy into the world.

  EU leaders said that EU-China relations have been deepening and expanding over the past 50 years. The EU is willing to work with China to jointly respond to global challenges such as climate change and maintain multilateralism and a stable international order.
