Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 30 (Reporters Shao Yibo and Yuan Rui) Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on the 30th that the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting issued a "BRICS Voice" of upholding multilateralism, safeguarding the multilateral trading system, and opposing unilateral bullying, and called for measures to defend free trade and the multilateral trading system.
Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on the same day that from April 28 to 29, the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended.
Guo Jiakun said that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. All parties reiterate their firmly safeguarding the core role of the United Nations in the international system and condemn any attempt to unilaterally undermine multilateral institutions. All parties expressed serious concerns about the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, including undifferentiated raising of reciprocal and non-tariff measures, believing that such measures will undermine global supply chains and aggravate global economic uncertainty, and called for measures to defend the free trade and multilateral trading system.
Guo Jiakun said: "The international community has seen that the global south represented by the BRICS countries is increasingly becoming a progressive force and just force to promote the democratization of international relations. A global south that is united, cooperated, united and self-reliant will surely inject more stability and certainty into the world."
