As the capital's "welcome door" and the city's living room, Beijing's railway stations are quietly becoming beautiful and beautifying, making the travel environment for passengers smoother and more comfortable.

  The reporter learned from the Municipal Key Stations and District Management Committee that the "2025 Optimization and Improvement Work Plan for Key Stations in Beijing" has been officially issued and implemented, focusing on unblocking, regulating chaos, evacuating and beautifying it, and comprehensively improving the travel environment in major railway stations. In particular, we will focus on promoting the quality improvement of the three station areas of "one south, one north and one center" (South Station, North Station, and West Station). It is planned to complete 18 improvement projects within the year, including: system optimization of the South Station area, highlighting the North Square in the West Station area, and creating a basic fenceless garden station area in the North Station area.

  Optimize the flow lines of people and cars entering and exiting to clear up blockages

  With the advancement and implementation of 18 improvement projects, the three major railway stations of Beijing South Station, Beijing North Station and Beijing West Station will continue to speed up passengers' travel by clearing congestion and controlling chaos.

  In order to alleviate the congestion of road network around Beijing South Station, the Municipal Key Station Management Committee, together with the National Railway Beijing Bureau Group, completed the renovation of the East Loading Platform of Beijing South Station to improve vehicle traffic efficiency. Promote the resumption of traffic function of closed sections of Yangqiao Nanbinhe Road, complete vehicle clearance, road repair, bus lane marking, traffic sign setting and technical defense facilities installation, for buses and buses to pass, and alleviate traffic pressure on the South Third Ring Road and Beijing South Station Road.

  In the past, during peak passenger flow, taxis and social vehicles in the South Plaza of Beijing West Railway Station were mixed. When there were many cars, vehicles could be queued around the island and could be thrown to the intersection of Jianyin Road. By optimizing and adjusting the flowline of the South Plaza island circle area, adding the opening of the island drop-off area, adjusting the flowline of the South Plaza taxi to Lianhuachi South Road, setting up a special taxi queuing lane on the East Gate Auxiliary Road of Lianhuachi, expanding the drop-off area and driving passage, etc., the social vehicles, online car-hailing and air-hailing taxis are diverted to the pick-up and drop-off stations, and no longer affected by taxi queues. The traffic efficiency of the intersection of Guang'an Road and West Station South Road has been increased by 100%, and the overall traffic efficiency of the West Station South Plaza has been increased by more than 50%. In the next step, the West Station area will further study and adjust the entrance and exit settings of the parking lot in the station area, optimize the entry and exit flow lines, reduce vehicle interweaving, and improve traffic efficiency.

  Also focusing on speeding up the traffic jams, Beijing North Station completed the task of vacancies for bus stops No. 375 and built a drop-off area with an average of 6,300 drop-offs per day. After passengers get off the bus, they can walk more than 100 meters to enter the station. After the drop-off area was opened, the number of illegal parking shots captured by electronic eyes at the east gate of the square dropped sharply, and the congestion in the surrounding road network was effectively alleviated.

  Renovate bus stations to improve utilization

  Nowadays, the proportion of traditional bus travel for passengers has dropped significantly. Data shows that the proportion of passengers taking buses at Beijing South Railway Station has dropped from 30% in the planning and design stage to less than 5%, and the share of personalized travel such as cars, taxis, and online car-hailing has increased to more than 40%. In order to solve the problems of difficulty in taking taxis and waiting for the bus, major railway stations have taken multiple measures to improve the comprehensive utilization efficiency of bus stations.

  At Beijing South Station, the Municipal Key Station District Management Committee, in conjunction with the Municipal Transportation Committee and the Bus Group, moved the airport bus boarding point located on the A channel of the bus station to the ground of the South Plaza, and opened a North Hub taxi dispatching station at the original location, which increased the taxi storage capacity by more than doubled, and the passenger boarding speed was greatly improved. At present, taxis in Beijing South Railway Station provide an average daily capacity of 18,000 passengers, an increase of 20% compared with the previous capacity. In the next step, the bus dispatching station of the North Hub of Beijing South Station will continue to "expand" and transform, promote the comprehensive utilization of the remaining three lanes, and improve the efficiency of space use. At the same time, the comprehensive utilization plan for the South Station South Plaza parking lot will be improved and the bus charging function of the South Plaza bus parking lot will be implemented.

  In the bus stop on the east side of the North Square of Beijing West Railway Station, two of the five bus lanes are vacated and are used as a shuttle area for social vehicles and online car-hailing. When the vehicle passes through the P6 parking lot, you can drive directly to the entrance of the square, where picking up and dropping off guests is fast and convenient. In addition, the bus stop of the West Station South Plaza has also completed the vacancy and renovation of lanes 2 and 3, and has been adjusted for tourist bus stops. Team passengers can quickly enter the South Plaza through the pedestrian passage. In the next step, the West Station area will continue to optimize the functional layout of north-south bus stations and improve comprehensive utilization efficiency.

  Create a "fenceless" garden station area

  In order to create the "most beautiful first impression when entering Beijing", since this year, Beijing South Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station and Beijing West Railway Station have successively completed the "seeing scenery when going out", greening around the road, and replanting and greening.

  The Beijing South Railway Station area and Gonglian Company have fully opened the North Plaza area of ​​more than 4,000 square meters and have carried out environmental improvement. Organize the removal of 1,354 meters of non-essential functional guardrails in the station area to improve road traffic efficiency and environmental beauty. At the same time, in conjunction with the Fengtai District Government, we will promote the improvement of the surrounding environment of the station area and the improvement of the landscape along the way, and promote the maintenance of the station area ramps and river bridges. In the next step, we will also tap potential in depth for the South Station area and surrounding resources, and will "overall activation" the plot at the intersection of the southwest corner of Xingfu Road and Kaiyang Road and the street green space on the south side of Xingfu Road, and study and build a station-city integration demonstration node integrating underground transportation connections, urban public activities and image display. In addition, the South Plaza parking lot and the triangular ground on the west side of Majiabao East Road will be systematically integrated to promote compound utilization and three-dimensional development.

  In order to achieve "displaying out of the North Square and recreating the original design style", Beijing West Railway Station is doing "addition and subtraction". Among them, the North Square of West Station is used to "subtraction", demolish redundant facilities, and purify the space in front of the station. Demolition of the 4700-meter guardrail and the 300-meter isolation piers, and 180-meter platform guardrail on the north second floor were removed. By August this year, 14 existing houses on the ground and under the spiral spiral path of North Plaza will be demolished, 4 underground entrances and exits of the square will be renovated, and 300 square meters of glass houses at the entrance of North Plaza Railway will be demolished, and the overall iconic red column of the main building will be reproduced. The West Station South Plaza is "added", focusing on improving environmental quality and landscape greening, recreating the historical context of the Lotus Pond, and committed to building a model of stations in the garden, urban living room and a model of station-city integration.

  In addition, Beijing North Station, with a century-old historical heritage, combined with the capital window function and garden city construction requirements, has promoted the increase of the traffic space and entry and exit lanes in the drop-off area on the basis of the adjustment of the original Bus No. 375 station area to the drop-off area, and designed a "wisteria corridor" in the pedestrian passage area to further optimize the connection function and beautify the traffic environment. At the square in front of the station, the traditional hard guardrail barrier was removed and instead set up flower boxes that also have anti-collision functions and beautiful shapes to enrich the landscape level and quality of the station area and increase the resting place for tourists.
